Parents
who were getting fed up with the ‘dark side’ – the ghoulish horrors of Halloween – or
worried about their kids’ trick-or-treat antics found a brilliant alternative
at St Hildeburgh's Church in Hoylake, a "Rainbow Light Party", with face-painting, apple-bobbing,
games, competitions, prizes and party food.
The event on All Hallows’ Eve,
Monday, October 31, welcomed children aged 4-10 and their families.
The Vicar of Hoylake,
Rev Paul Rossiter, explained:
“The word hallow means holy and Halloween is a Christian festival to remember the dead, a time of hope and light, which has become – let’s face it – pretty tacky and commercialized. We staged an upbeat substitute which not only acknowledged that Jesus is the light of the world but also was much more fun.“The kids were encouraged to come in their brightest clothes and create a real rainbow effect. We are a church that reaches out to the community and this is just another way we are doing that.”
