We had two more guests than usual at St Hildeburgh's 'Soup and Sandwich Lunch' for senior citizens this month.
Pictured with our Pastoral Worker in Training, Jill Rawcliffe (left), are Victoria (right) and Teresa (centre).
Victoria, who works for the Library & Knowledge Service at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, and Teresa, who works for Wirral's Library Service, are collaborating on an exciting scheme called the 'Reminiscence Box Project'. Below are shown the contents of one such 'Reminiscence Box'.
The project aims to support the health and wellbeing of people with dementia - and their families - on Wirral. Staff from the Wirral University Teaching Hospital and Wirral's Library Service are working together to create the boxes - which are available from Arrowe Park Hospital and Wirral's four central libraries.
Through the items in the boxes - once familiar in all homes - it is hoped to spark memories and, in situations such as a hospital stay, bring reassurance and comfort.
St Hildeburgh's Church's Soup and Sandwich Lunches take place once a month in our Church Centre (behind the church on Stanley Road in Hoylake). A team of parish workers provide tasty soup and nourishing sandwiches followed by a cuppa (free of charge) for older members of the community - including many residents of care homes. In addition to the lunch, there is live music and a free raffle.
