LET’S LAUNCH CHRISTIAN
AID BY SHOWING FAITH
ON THE DOORSTEP
Sheila Waring, our Christian Aid
representative, writes…
It’s the start of Christian Aid Week and I am praying that our
usual band of stalwarts will be joined by others who are willing to take a pack
of envelopes for distribution. Last year, despite online means of donating, we still
raised a total of well over £850 at St Hildeburgh's Church.
I know that some of
our team have occasionally called at a home where the resident has been unpleasant
and they are unwilling to try again. Last year I found that a smile, a ‘Thank
you’ and a ‘God bless you’ gave them pause for thought.
Surely our faith is
strong enough to go out into the community on behalf of the world’s poorest –
our way of showing local folk that St Hildeburgh’s is a caring community willing
to support our global family. A volunteer wrote, ”One of the big strengths of
the charity is that it gives you the chance to put something that matters to
you into action.”
Last year Christian
Aid helped people to find their own solutions, not only to poverty but also in
their fight against social injustice. There have been responses to emergencies
in Syria, Iraq and now Nepal, and governments have been persuaded to spend
more on critical help.
As Jesus reminds us: In as much as you do it for one of the least
of these, you do it for me – Matthew 25:45.
