HELP WILLIAM TO HELP OTHERS…IN UGANDA

An African adventure is coming up for St Hildeburgh's worshipper William Jones – but it is far from a holiday.
William, 18-year-old son of churchwarden Carron, is off to Uganda where he will be working with under-privileged youngsters for 3½ weeks with just one weekend off.
He has to raise £1,300 to cover his travel and other costs and, having amassed £600, aims to augment his funding by undergoing a sponsored chest-waxing – by St Hildeburgh's own qualified beautician, Kathey Lang. Our congregation are invited to sponsor William on the form at the back of church from today.
He will be joining youngsters from the Church of the Good Shepherd, Heswall, on their yearly mission to Uganda. The group, who will fly out on July 12, will be living, eating and working with the local people in very basic conditions.
William told us: “I have got a real feel for Africa, after visiting South Africa, and I’m really excited about this project. I’ve got no illusions – it will be a tough trip and hard work.
“It’s the sort of place where people sleep on the floor – a mud floor. Money has already been raised to pay for mattresses for them and now we will be working to redecorate and upgrade their homes, and helping in various ways.”
William is in his last year in the sixth form at Hilbre High School, studying Drama and ICT (Information & Communication Technologies).
